I use to have my shih tzu groomed at petsmart for $40. He died of old age 5 years ago, so it should be close to that now for just a shampoo.How much does basic shampoo wash at Petco and Petsmart cost?

Go on their website and look for pricing on the services you are interested in. They probably have something posted about their prices.
why don't you call the grooming department and ask how much it will cost to give your dog a bath. because in dog grooming all of that is included the nail clipping the bath the drying and that's it unless you request a haircut only you need to go down there and talk to the groomers to get a better idea or call them either way.
Depends on your area, around here it's about $25 for shampoo, ears, and nails.
In Petco in Florida, it cost about $30 for nail clipping, ear cleaning, bathing, blow dry and brush out. Depends on size of dog and length/thickness of coat. Make sure your dog is up to date on vaccinations before making an appointment though. They won't accept the dog if you don't have verification.
